Acceptable Use Policy
This Acceptable Use Policy applies to everyone who uses ConfusionDesign hosting, email, and managed website services, and it forms part of our Terms of Service. Our customers share server resources, and this policy keeps the service fast, secure, and reliable for all of them.
If you break this policy, we may remove the content involved, suspend your services, or close your account without a refund, as described in our Terms.
Illegal content and activity
- Anything that is illegal under applicable U.S. law.
- Content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or other rights, including pirated software, media, or license keys.
- Child sexual abuse material. We remove it immediately, close the account, and report it to the authorities.
- Fraud, scams, or impersonating another person or organization.
Security and malicious software
- Malware, viruses, phishing pages, or anything designed to steal information or credentials.
- Trying to access other accounts, our systems, or any other network without permission, including port scanning, vulnerability scanning, and password guessing.
- Running open proxies, open mail relays, or botnet command-and-control.
- Denial-of-service attacks, or hosting tools designed to carry them out.
- No spam. Don't send unsolicited bulk or commercial email, and only send marketing email to people who have opted in.
- Don't use purchased, rented, or scraped email lists.
- Commercial email must follow the CAN-SPAM Act, including a working unsubscribe link and a valid physical postal address.
- Each mailbox can send up to 200 messages per hour. Newsletters and large mailings should go through a dedicated email marketing service.
- Don't forge message headers or otherwise hide where a message came from.
Server resources
- No cryptocurrency mining.
- Don't use your hosting as general file storage, a backup destination, or a file-sharing or media-streaming service unrelated to your website.
- Don't run scripts, cron jobs, or processes that use excessive CPU, memory, or disk activity and slow the server down for other customers.
Harassment and privacy
- Content that threatens violence, or that harasses or stalks individuals.
- Publishing someone's private personal information without their consent.
Reporting abuse
If you believe a website or mailbox on our servers breaks this policy, email us at bryan@confusiondesign.com with "Abuse report" in the subject line. Include links, email headers, or any other details that will help us investigate.
How we enforce this policy
We may investigate suspected violations. Depending on how serious the problem is, we may give you a warning, remove content, or suspend or close your account. If there's a risk to the server, other customers, or the public, we may act immediately and without notice. We cooperate with law enforcement when the law requires it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
